Basenji Work Description

The Basenji, often referred to as the “barkless dog,” is an elegant, intelligent, and energetic breed originally from Central Africa. Known for their unique vocalization—referred to as a “barroo”—instead of barking, Basenjis are alert, independent, and versatile hunters. They were originally bred for hunting small game and excel at problem-solving and tracking. Basenjis are highly trainable but can be independent, requiring consistent, positive training methods. They thrive in active households with plenty of physical and mental stimulation. Despite their independent nature, they are affectionate and loyal to their family members.
